Remembering the Rocket: A Celebration
Published in Hardcover by Stoddart Pub (October, 1998)
Average review score:

Remembering the Rocket's Red GlareThis spicy little book of collected essays on one of the greatest hockey players ever belongs on any true hockey fan's bookshelf. The Rocket was more than just a man, or a hockey player. He was an institution, as evidenced by the recent state funeral for our lost hockey great. The Rocket harkens back to a day when the fighting spirit of a single player could enliven the hearts and minds of a generation of fans. First-rate!

The Repetitive Strain Injury Sourcebook
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (October, 1997)
Average review score:

Excellent coverage of the quiet epidemic of the computer ageAn excellent sourcebook covering all aspects of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) the new epidemic of the technological age. You may have RSI and not even know it, and if you are reading this review you are definitely at risk for it (computer users are particularly at risk). Almost two-thirds of all workplace injuries in the U.S. are caused by it. The author, a newspaper reporter, describes the injury, what causes it, how to recognize if you have it, how to avoid it if you don't yet have it, the various treatments available, and how it is likely to affect your life outside the workplace. To illustrate each chapter, the author has included interviews with RSI victims from across the country. She concludes with a description of her own affliction with RSI, a story that is searing, yet ultimately uplifting. The most important value of this book is not just that it is a comprehensive review of this disease, but even more importantly, that it calls attention to a disease that can be truly thought of as the new plague of the twentieth century, a disease that has so far claimed its victims in silence. What is particularly insidious about RSI is that unlike the other epidemics that afflicted humankind, the contagion is not spread from person to person, but from machine to person, meaning the epidemic will increase just about as fast as our use of computer keyboards increases. Because this epidemic is not transmitted in the way previous epidemics have been, it has remained a silent yet increaing crippler of otherwise healthy and productive adults. The public awareness that will be required to halt the spread of this disease can be found in the pages of this book. I highly recommend it.

Representing: Hip Hop Culture and the Production of Black Cinema
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (July, 1998)
Average review score:

An excellent accessment of Hip-Hop Culture and Black Film.I highly recommend this book. It is very enjoyable and informative reading that is right on target for insight into the Black Urban Culture, the rise of Hip Hop and it's influence on Black produced American film. It was used as a main text for a Rap and Black Cinema university course successfully. Although very sociology based, it was understood by college students of other majors who appreciated the book's honesty of a much maligned topic.

Richard Whately: A Man for All Seasons
Published in Paperback by Canadian Institute for Law, Theology & Public Policy, Inc. (April, 1997)
Average review score:

A must read for the serious critic.Whatley's tounge-in-cheek tour de force is revived for the 'amateur de lecteur'. Craig Parton's concise biography and formidable biblography help the 21st Century reader and critic to catch up to Whately's career as a writer and social reformer. This is a must read for anyone interested in History and Literature. Whatley takes the radical higher critics to the woodshed in this book and spanks them soundly. The rich battleground which is Historical Methodolgy has seen the revival of Whately's formidable arsenal of Logic and Reason for which he is best known. Three cheers for the brilliant advocat Craig Parton for bringing back a real 'Before its Time' classic.

The Ride to Gold Canyon (Linda Craig Adventures, No 6)

Remembering the Golden Jet is no different. From Bobby Hull's early days playing minor hockey, to his watershed defection from the NHL to play for Winnipeg, a move that would rock the hockey world and force the league to re-evaluate it's salary policy forever.
For Blackhawks fans this book charts the progress of a player who was feared by goalies everywhere for his blistering slapshot.
I have read every Bobby Hull book out there, and nothing comes close in it's insights, in it's recognition of Hull as a true Legend of the game, as this beautifully designed book.
I can't recommend it highly enough.
